Overview

Served as Fundraising Representative for Dublin Youth Theatre, supporting the organization's financial sustainability and ensuring accessible youth arts programming continued.

About Dublin Youth Theatre

Dublin Youth Theatre provides theatre education and performance opportunities for young people across Dublin, fostering creativity, confidence, and community through the arts. The organization operates on a model making theatre accessible regardless of financial background—requiring robust fundraising to sustain programming.

Responsibilities

As Fundraising Representative, I worked to secure resources through grant applications, donor cultivation, and fundraising events. This required understanding both the organization's financial needs and the broader landscape of arts funding in Ireland—navigating institutional funders, individual donors, and community support.

Impact & Learning

This role deepened understanding of how cultural organizations navigate financial sustainability, particularly those committed to access and equity. The experience highlighted tensions between artistic mission and funding realities—questions about whose support comes with strings attached, how to maintain independence while seeking institutional funding, and what gets prioritized when resources are limited.

These insights continue informing current work on cultural policy and institutional analysis, particularly questions about how funding structures shape what cultural work is possible and whose voices get supported.
